I had a new 1977 XLCH with solids (of course) and the book said to adjust the clearance cold and to set them so the pushrod rotated freely but had no play vertically.
Setting them tighter than that may hold a valve off its seat while the engine is warming up- a bad thing.
I know nothing of shovels or their maintenance, but solids are solids.
Riding old Triumphs I learned that a chatting valve train was a happy valve train. If those bikes were ever quiet, someone set them too tight. I remember hotrod big twins from back in the day and they all had plenty of chatter from the top end, and a cool whine from the bottom.
Come to the Bay Area Ca. I can't get 60 wt here, can't order it from the usual sources, sorry we can't ship to Ca. So last year while I was back east seeing John in Jersey and family in WV. had Amazon deliver a dozen cases and packed that stuff back to Ca. in my truck, was a popular Christmas present for a few peeps.
Can your local dealership order HD 60wt is is that also a no go?

That's insane considering the car/bike/hotrod culture of California. Whenever you cram too many people into an area that's what happens. It's the same thing here. Long Island is a beautiful place. It just has too many people on it so the government makes it suck.

I don't think it's holding any valves off the seat. The bike runs great, no misfires or anything. It's just noisier when it's hot which I thought was odd.
