1969 Shovelhead i need some help. I have no torque/power and i cant get over 70mph. also when i go into higher RPM it feels like it wants to take off and then it feels like it slows down.
Things to check:
Do a compression test. Rode a sportster that acted like that for almost two years, until it just wouldn't start. bad compression, pistons were scored. Even though your plugs are good and tan that doesn't necessarily rule out bad compression rings.
Check timing. Something so simple can really mess you up.
Try a different, known good coil. Again, something so simple can mess you up.
Sounds like you've already replaced the points and condensor, if not, a bad condensor can do odd things to ya...
Ever thought of changing to a DynaS electronic setup? You have to get the matched coil to go with it but it sure cuts out a lot of crap that points cause you....
Oh, also you might check things like the in tank fuel screen and make sure the carb is not full of trash... Get a good fuel filter.....
Well, an update on the situation.
I had ordered a tune up kit that included the condensor and points from Accell.
The points didnt fit, but i went ahead and changed out the condensor.
OH MY!!!! what a difference that made!! I have all the power i was missing back!!! WOOHOO!!!
I am going to get the right points but as far as the power issue it is gone!!
Thanks for all the advice given, great place to ask for issues!!
