Default Speedometer

Hey, new to the forum thing was told by a parts guy at the local H-D shop It's the place to be. Here's my first ? I am restoring my 69 fl police special the chrome ring around the speedometer is rusted pretty bad, has anyone been able to remove this ring and get it rechromed then reinstall it without messing up anything else. Thanks in advance. Dan

Default RE: Speedometer

I had an FL speedometer rebuilt many years ago by a speedometer shop. The ring you speak of can be uncrimped and removed. That is how the speedometer is opened up for servicing. If there is enough base metal left, it could be repolished and rechromed. There is probably someplace that has parts for most any speedometer and it might be cheaper to buy a new ring than have your old one rechromed. You might even find it in stainless. I'd start with your phone book to look for Speedometer/Tachometer shops in your area and give 'em a call.
