The ignition is the Zippers 317-105K, for the K/S. I know a lotta guys running the same setup as mine, and they don't seem to have any issues, that is why I am leaning towards a faulty ignition module, however, I won't disregard the idea of installing a Super E carb.
Other than the starting issue the bikeruns like a champ, I couldn't ask for anything more in an old shovel. Here are a few pics, if I actually got them resized properly. Again thanks to all for the advice.

The shovel motor w/ an S&S carb standing alone has always been a favorite picture/poster for me.

Late 70's/early 80's I ran a Super B on a 1966 98" shovel, kickstart only. It started fine. You should be able to get it to work for you. I thought it was a hell of a good carb...basic, like a big hole to pour gas into, but once I learned the cold/hot start routines I had no problems. I was running a mild cam, Sifton 414. As long as the throttle shaft is sealing okay (as well as no other vacuum leaks) and the enrichener is working properly I'd look elsewhere for the problem.

I should have mentioned this, but it slipped my mind. Half the time I am kicking, the bike won't fart, burp, puke, or anything, then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, she starts. Once again once it is running, everything is fine.
The shop doesn't open till Tues., so I will be in touch with them about some of the suggestions here.
I might also mention that I built the bike myself, with the exception of the engine and the paint.
When I figure out how to post a pic I will. So far it tells me my files are to large.

Something badinfluence63, kicked my memory, when I ordered my 93” shovel from S&S it came with thier single fire ignition they stated “tell us before we ship, if you will be using a Kicker Only or Kicker / Elec Start”

Could be the problem, maybe worth checking out with the shop ?

Good luck,

Ps: nice work you did on the rider, get some pic’s up !

Yeah, I know what you mean, standing alone is a great picture, but I have to settle for in the box : - )

Hay don’t hand me that crap : - ))) I ain’t no rich guy by any means : - ) I paid my dues since I brought this one in 81, I took out a $7,000 loan, last year, and your looking at the first shovelhead engine or really any other model I am a where S&S has, that is all powered coated black meaning not just the cyls but the heads and engine cases, took me a month of having my dealer bang them up every week on doing it, they did and from what I understand was a big hit at the factory, anyhow it was $300 extra to do it, total for the 93” LC was 7300 worth every dime : - )

It’s a E carb they put it on that model as for the A/C I just said I rather have that one I think it’s called a renegade or something, nothing extra they just put that one instead of the stock unit.

I went through the original and 2 more top ends, it need a bottom end, I was going to buy a new LR, the more I looked and learn the more I knew I wanted to stick with the shovel, they can keep their download maps !

It was the main reason I came to this site in the first place to find out info on new models, when I decided to buy a new engine and tranny I wanted some info on S&S, I didn’t get it, so I just started a new post on Shovelheads titled “S&S Engines” it’s on the 3 rd page https://www.hdforums.com/m_1064448/tm.htm

take care,

cj

Something I took a long time to figure out with my Evo chopper, I had the same starting problems from day one. Funny thing is at 3000 mi it started responding to the standard procedure, 2 prime, 1 or 2 kicks. I discovered that the new engine was so tight that a kick didn't turn the alternator on, it turned too slow. After a good breakin a good kick would pop the voltage up to 14v and it would fire immediately.
In the early time it would fire immediately when bump started, it spun faster than just kicking it. If you hook up a volt meter and kick and you don't get 14v the coil won't charge up enough. Just a thought, gotta have that spark. Good Luck

I had wondered about the very same thing. The engine only has 2800 miles on it, and maybe a couple of hours on the Dyno. It is still a very tight engine, and with a few more miles it may finally seat in place and let me start her.
This bikehad the electric start, hence the FXE, but I had to be different.
Iput the Super B on the bike 3 years ago and never had any issues with it, it was only when I converted to K/S only that she didn't like to start.
I talked to the guys at the shop, and they said a Thunderjet is not an option for me, but possiblyan S&S E could be. They aren't ready to give upon the super B, and are still looking at theZippers ignition module.

I would really talk to your dealer about this below, it could be as simple as this ?

cj

An exclusive feature is the ability to set the system up to delay the ignition fire from 1 to 3 revolutions, on electric start modules, to aid starting of large displacement or high compression engines.
http://www.zippersperformance.com/catalogue/showproduct.asp?cat=583&prod=2036

The Ignition Utility program allows S&S super Stock ignition users to select "kickstart" or "electric start" modes. In electric start mode, it allows the user to define number of cranking revolutions before firing the spark plugs to protect the starter from kickback.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING SOFTWARE USE: This software is ONLY to be used with the S&S Super Stock ignition for use on "V" and “SH” style motors. This does not apply to "TC" motors or the IST. Operating Statistics and Ignition Utility cannot access restricted private label products other than those authorized.
