clutch cable adjustment
You really need a genuine HD manual. It will tell you how to install/adjust your cable/clutch and most anything else you will need to know to maintain and repair your motorcycle. If the bike has been sitting for a long time, you'll find lots of "opportunities" to use the new manual as you get the bike back into shape.
It is possible to put the Helicoil in the front head for the exhaust with it on the bike but you would probably want a second person there to help you drill it straight. If you have never installed a Helicoil before, it is probably not wise to make this the first time unless you have a lot of faith in your mechanical abilities or a knowledgeable buddy who can guide you through the process.
yes I have had the clutches stick to the steels after the bike has sat for a long while. Yes get yourself a manual and I would suggest going over the bike from top to bottom and really inspecting everything very closely. brakes electrical inc. wiring, battery and charging system. take a close look at the tires wheels and spokes for any looseness. you can also tap the stripped exhaust I assume it is in the head, to 3/8 get a stepped stud 3/8 to 5/16 for that repair.

I just put a new clutch in the 79 FX. The old plates were in bad shape and the new ones are 100% better. So I guess in a long way I'm saying I would replace the clutch. Good luck keep us up on how things are going.

I've also de glazed the steels by sanding them with a DA and some 180 it doesn't take much usually.
to remove the clutches with out taking the pressure plate and springs all apart I find a large washer or what I use is a body shim, back off the adjusting nut which tightens on to the pressure plate slip the shim or washer behind the nut and re tighten the nut so the washer pushes against the pressure plate. This compresses the springs. remove the notched nuts holding the plate to the clutch hub remove the clutches and steels to inspect and clean. I like to keep them in order and re install the same way they came out.
