I've just startedrestoring a 71 Superglide and have a few questions:

if I recall the lifter blocks and master cylinder were both painted a dull or medium silver.
cleaning the cases I would start with degrease like gunk and follow with brake clean, soap and water and a brush with some elbow grease, I'm guessing they are not polished.
