I did purchase a manual last year but it is not the greatest and not very detailed. I believe it is the Clymer service manual..
I have never tried to look but I will look tonight... thanks!
I think they blocked the URL because it was from the V-twin forums... it described the exact same problem and they changed the coil and it fixed the problem.
Well, I do have electronic ignition, I looked at the manual at the HD dealer. I bought me a new Accell Coil, I figured it wouldnt' hurt to have it anyway even if that is not the main problem but I have a feeling it is. Most people i have talked to have said that is what it sounds like. I also got some SE plugs and wires.
I'll let you all know once they are put on tonight.
If you are running electronic ign. Is it dual fire or singlefire ? this may be important when it comes to your coil. And when you changed the fule filter is your flow better. What size is your fuel line, and id also take the petcock off and inspect the stem screeen for blockage. I had one of my shovels give me that heartburn once for a while. I took off the Pingle petcock, and low and behold some weird boogery lookin **** was all over the screen ?? I never did figure out what that was. But after a good cleaning and me draining the tank and washing it out. Problem solved.
Apparently mine is not a single fire... but I did pick up a single fire coil. After the guy at the shop told me it should work... Needless to day the bike did not start with that coil on it. Well, after thinking for a while I decided to put a small jumper inbetween the two negative terminals on the coil and the bike Purrrred... I took it around the block and no back fire from the exhaust at all.
I did remove the petcock a week ago when I put the new tank on and it was clean, I bought it new last year. I also removed the inline fuel filter and put 3/8" fuel line directly from the petcock to the carb.
The big test will be tonight, I am going to take it for a run with a buddy of mine, he has a roadking so he can hold my tools for now!! lol
Thanks all for your input.. I'll post up after tonights ride...
my concern using the single fire coil with a traditional dual fire {OEM} module is the ohm rating for the coil being less {or more} that the signal from the module, may cause a failure of one or the other components?
Good job! Glad to hear it. I recently broke down and after thoroughly checking everything it turned out to be the coil. Did get home and wasn't stranded for more then an hour.
