Just replaced the accelerator pump on my Bendix Zenith and it still leaks. Am I missing something? It leaks when it runs and when its off with the petcokk is off. Is the float set too low? I'm out of ideas.
I assume your carb is leaking from the overflow/vent for the fuel bowl. If it is, that would mean that the float is set too high or the needle and/or seat for the fuel inlet valve to the carb is leaking through.
I know it's not the petcock since fuel doesn't come out of the hose when disconected from the carb. The fuel is comming from around the accelerator pump boot. I'll try to adjust the float and see if that makes a difference.
I'll let you know if that helps.
Don't know what type float {metal or composition} your carb has but check to see of it is heavy or has fuel in it from a leak, that will cause your condition.
guess I misunderstood when you said that it leaked with the fuel valve closed??
The float is metal and I submersed it in a cup of water and looked for bubbles and saw none. I loewred the float a bit (calls for 3/16 - it's about 1/16th lower) and replaced the inlet valve and I'll see what that does.
Also the accelerator pump boot really doesn't seal on the float bowlbody - it just sits there. Should the boot seal better than that? I'm thinking zip tie or small hose clamp. Just looking for something here.
Thanks
If the boot is just a dust boot {I'm not familiar with the set up} thats not to seal fuel just to keep debris from the plunger.
if a metal float has a leak you should be able to hear or feel fuel inside if it had a leak.
I'm guessing the float was set a little to high.
don't know if you could do this with your carb but with an S&S you can:
with the float bowl removed from the body
fuel line attached
hold the float bowl level
turn on the fuel and observe how full the bowl gets this give you an idea how much fuel is in the bowl.
I've done this before when trouble shooting a guys problem.
