I have been riding my resto project and today it developed a new problem.
It start on 2nd or 3rd kick idles fine runs great then acts as if it is running out of fuel. It dies sits for a couple of minutes starts fine idles fine runs great then does the same thing. If I just leave it idle it purrs then chokes, coughs, dies.
Any ideas.

If you think it is a fuel problem, check the fuel delivery first. You must have properly vented fuel tank(s) so check your vented cap. Pull the fuel hose from the carb and open the petcock to run some fuel into a clean cup or can and watch for hesitation in flow. Is the fuel clean? If all looks good there, pour the fuel back into your tank and look at the carb. Check the float for hanging up in its highest position. If that is okay, then you may have something in the needle valve that the float operates or something in the fuel bowl plugging up gas flow to the idle/intermediate fuel circuit. If the bowl is clean, then there may be something in the idle/intermediate circuit itself requiring blowing it out or flushing it somehow.
You did not mention that it was dying when you have the throttle open pretty far so that you are on the main jet but if it does die under heavy acceleration, or load, then that circuit should be checked too.
All of the above and also check the vent line between the two tanks, the one that runs under the dash. Also make sure the fuel line is not resting against the motor where it runs between the cylinders. I’ve had certain types of inline fuel filters cause a similar problem.
Make sure you gas cap is venting, clean the screen on your petcock inside the tank and if you have an in-line external fuel filter get rid of it! Does this happen on a full tank of gas or only when the level is 1/2 or less? If it's the latter, then it's most likely a fuel filter issue.
