afternoon all, i'm changing out the friction and steel plates in my 78 4-speed kick. the new kit i bought came with a clutch hub friction disk & rivets, the old ones i pulled out does not. is there something i'm missing here, and what is the extra disk for. the old set are burnt and glazed over real bad it's a mother %%$#@ to take off. foot clutch, hand shift. any ideas, thanks---banderashovel..
If you pull off your clutch shell you will see the clutch hub friction disc. If it is glazed, loose or broken replace it. If looks like it can be used again wait until next time. Also the original handshift clutches 1941 to 67 used heavier springs than footshift, you may want to change those if you have a problem with slipping.

i've pulled the clutch disk out along with the steel plates, did not see anywhere in there that this wood go ???, there is no plate in there that has rivets..
To pull the clutch shell and sprocket you have to remove the front sprocket and chain adjuster, then the clutch shell will slide off the bearings of the clutch hub. The friction plate is behind the shell on the front of the hub. You would have to pull the hub to replace the friction plate. Left handed thread on the clutch hub nut. You will have to have a clutch hub puller to remove the hub.

Sounds like you have an aftermarket setup. To take off the stock pressure plate you remove the center nut, put on a large washer and tighten it until you can remove the 3 lock nuts. A stock 68 and later clutch has 4 steel and 5 friction plates a 67 and earlier style has 3 friction and 1/2 plate and 3 steel.

it rivets to the finger spool, most of the time they do not wear out, make sure that the disc is tight on the finger spool, if it is don't worry about changing it.
