Spedo cable

I need to change the spedo cable on my 1979fxs, Do I need to remove the front wheel and spedo drive to do this. I only need the cable, not the disk on the front axle. Thanks

Just remove the cable from the instrument, and unscrew the housing from the speedo drive.
