Sifton lifter blocks Warning for generator engine!!
I learned the hard way that if you are installing the Sifton lifter block kits with the solid conversions they offer from V twin and others "BE AWARE" if you are using an Andrews cam the combination failed on my 68 FLH
The skirts on the lifter blocks are shorter than OEM for the early shovels, that in combination with the Andrews cam will eventually {in my case about 200 miles} allow the lifter to slide out of the guide {lower} in the lifter block and when it turns the slightest you can imaging the carnage it creates in the timing case.
I'm going back together now with my old blocks and lifters push rods ect. and and old A grind cam which I ran with my old engine to get it back together and run a compression test to see if any damage was done to the valves.
I should know in a few hours if I can simply replace the cam with an S&S and go with the S&S lifters and blocks they offer which will remedy the miss matched parts I will have in the engine for my testing. When talking with S&S tech this AM the guy was quite aware of the issue I had, too bad I didn't talk with him first
You bet any time I can save someone time and money I'll do it.
I took the 68 for a short ride last night and to tell you the truth I'm thinking the "A" grind cam is working better for my application. The bike starts much better and still pulls very strong. This may have been a good - bad thing that happened.
