Default Question about lifters!

A buddy of mine that I consult about my 82' FXRS has suggested that I switch from hydraulic lifters to solid lifters (for lack of a better word). I've heard this does a lot for performance, etc.

Any experience about this out there?

Thanks,

Max

if you are running a stock cam, the only thing you will gain is noise. if you are planning on changing cams you can do it at that time. most folks will not notice any change in performance. I have installed Andrews A grinds with both and most of my customers have preferred the hydr. lifters due to less tappet noise and maintenance. alot of cams cannot be run with hydraulics.
it is advisable to adjust the end play on the rocker arms also.

I ran solids in my 79 with the stock hyd cam It was louder but I'm half deaf so I ran it for 20,000 miles before I went with an A grind There is something in the design of the hyd cam to enhance the hyd lifter as it rolls onto the beginning of the lobe ( so I've read)

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the good advice. I hate to sound out of touch, but what is an A grind?

Longer duration and a higher lift. It will give you better mid and high range power with little or no affect on your idle. Usually, but not always, one of the highest lifts you can just do a bolt in install without having to worry about spring probs.
In my experience, one of the most popular cams for shovels.
Someone please correct me if I'm in error here, Thanx.
