Default Leinwebber Cams

Anyone have any history with running a Leinwebber in a stroked Shovel? The 440 Sifton is on its way out with this ground-up rebuild going on, and Leinwebber is one of the cams I am thinking of using, along with Andrews.

Default RE: Leinwebber Cams

leinwebber cams are about the best cam you can put in a shovel,i run a j3 in my 93ci they got a web site www.leinwebbercams.com check um out,but a good cam in a shovel also is a andrews c grind will work good with a stroker, but will need some higher comp. to work well, strokers won't need as much as stock 74 or 80 inchers, try to shoot for at least 9 to1 comp, once installed check it with a compreshion guage if it's around 150 psi in a cylender that is a good number, these cams have a lot of over lap and you have to keep the comp. up to make it work well. iv'e seen guys put big cams in stock motors and do no head work, set up springs exc exc. and drop vavles because the springs wern't clearenced and the heads wern't set up for the cam, it will sound good with the idle but run like poop!!! do your home work bigger is not allways better. iv'e smoked a many of bikes with a 80in shovel with a small bolt in cam crane 298-b 450 lift but the motor was built with parts that work well together, not the big'st stuff you can through in it.

Thumbs up Lienweber Cams, I see you have experience using them

Hi, got your nome off the web, searching for info on Lienweber cams for my '65 Pan Electraglide. I've built numerous twin cams using Andrews and HD cams, and own an 83 FXRS Shovel in mint condition. I am going through the top end of an early Electraglide pan, and the smaller Lienweber with the 18.5/49 intake timing (@ .053 lift) and 247.5 duration, and an overlap of only 34 deg. looks like just what I need for no ping operation. It only has 0.419 lift (that would be 0.439 on a Pan with the different ratio rockers they have). Would this, their smallest grind cam, work well with stock 8.5 to 1 compression, or would I need to go to 10 to 1 pistons (I have a set available). My goal is to operate on 91 octane pump gas without ping, and wake up the motor a bit. I have new Paughco 2 into 1 into 2 original type duals, with a set of the old style 33 inch "Rocket Fishtail" mufflers, and an S&S Carb.

Thanks in advance,
-Stoood
