Take your time and make sure you're comfortable with the bike you decide on. Finding one stock will be more difficult but it can be done. Shovels right now are demanding big $$ IMHO. For some reason everyone believes that they're the new pans. When you're looking pay attention to how many miles since the last top end/bottom end. Generally speaking the top ends last 15 to 30k, but it's not unheard of one going 50k.
Pick up a shovelhead manual and familiarize yourself with it. It'll require more maintenance and upkeep than your current ride but to me that's half the fun. FX's had the kick option up to 84. They had that goofy kick arm that sprung out on the pivot point by the kick shaft. Wasn't much good for kick starting but orthopedic docs seem to like it.
Like the other guys said, keep looking till you find the one you want, I was looking
for over a year before I found my 76, if I didnt look into 50 different shovels I didnt
look at a single one and glad I waited, I had a few issues, but now it all good!!!!
You can also try ironcross.net, there's atleast one or two on there every few days, after you get on the site click on "forums" on the left side of the main page, then click on "swap meet" in the middle of the page.
