That is a kit from V-twin suggested retail is 523.55 dealer price is about $400.00. He is giving free shipping so it's not a bad price. Some V-twin products don't quite fit right but most of the time you can make it. Example I bought a compensating sprocket kit similar to the one included in the kit. The shaft extension would not fit completely flush in the sprocket because of a weld. Ground the weld down and it fit fine.

Sissy69,
I have not done business with this guy.
Here's a link to his site. He frequently advertises used primary drives and tranny's often sold as sets.
But, like I said, I have never done business with him so I can't tell you anything about them.

I've dealt with AMC before. Their prices are good.
They're not real fast, but fast enough.
I ain't pitchin' for them, but if you wanna get that shovel going you don't have a lot of options available to you.
Did you go back to the seller and ask him WTF?
Anyone of any credibility would at least stand by their product for 30 days.
If you haven't, maybe you should at least ask, maybe the seller would at least split the cost with you. All they can say is no.
I would ask, that's completely BS.

I stay away from V-Twin junque for 2 reasons:
1. He's known as Taiwan Tedd for a reason - parts are cheaply made and often don't fit.
2. He routinely rips off designs from bikers and undercuts them on price because of 1.

Question Mia Culpa

Thanks again for the tips. Especially about Jap Crap dealers! F&%CK that cheap inferior quality stuff on my bikes. I know this is going to date me, but WTF...I am proud of being OldSchool. I remember a time when most Harley shops were ramshackle little garages where a bearded, slightly gnarley and ocassionally smelly mechanic with dirty coveralls and a pit bull in close proximity would perform a wide range of mechanical services for a joint and a twelve pack.

For those of you advocating some minor form of torture designed to extract compensation from the Cro Magnum, pseudo-Christian liar that bought The FL from...Thanks for your support. And when I figured out what the seller did--buy a salvaged bike and throw all kinds of broken leftover parts on it just to get it to run long enough to sell it to poor lil' me--Well naturally, my first inclination was to jam a fishtail up his ***.

But the truth is that with bikes, just like men, I like a challenge. I in love with the nostalgic/romantic possibilities. Fifteen inch apes and upswept fishtails. Uneasy Rider, uh-huh.

Altogether, It has been a learning experience for sure, but with the support of guys like you, we will be in the wind before the cold arrives in three months or so.
Here is another vendor question for y'all. Have you had any experience with Rob's Used Parts? He has an inner primary for 200.00.

http://www.robsusedharleyparts.com/p...725&fullsize=1
He has good documentation and pictures, but the inside of the inner primary looked a little rough. Also, it seems like he places the description tag over the parts he doesn't want the potential customer to see.
I Appreciate your help.

Sissy

Sissy, I haven't dealt with Robb but it doesn't look all that bad. Ask him for a pic without the tag and the back side so you can look at the lip that mounts to the engine. He should be able to accomodate. There's a place in KC where I got a lot of parts for my bike Wayne's house of choppers. I don't know the phone number off hand but they are listed. you can also try jockeyjournal.com they have sections where you can list for sale or parts wanted.

good luck and keep the faith sister. Good to see more lady riders on the road and wrench themselves.

A couple thoughts.
I'm not up to speed on what used primaries cost but $200 sounds like a lot o' dough for a used one. Of course, it is an OEM inner, which is good.
I was thinking about what you called your bike, ie: '82 fl/fx, Do you have an FL geared tranny or an FX geared tranny? If you get your transmission rebuilt, go with the FX gearing. The FX models were geared for a lighter bike so first gear will allow you to accelerate more before you have to shift. I'm thinkin' you will like the FX more than the FL gearing unless you plan on loading your bike up with touring accessories.
Sorry, I don't know anything about Rob's Used Harley Parts.
This forum has a parts-for-sale section too. May be something there you need.

Thanks for the affirmation Jim. You know, a woman must know her stuff BEFORE going to the shop. And besides that, my old man has this crazy idea that I should know a enough to get by. But I couldn't do it without your kind assistance.

Now here is more weirdness about the FRANKEN-BIKE! The tranny number corresponds to the 1979-1984 Fl style rotary top 4 speed. But the Inner primary is a 197? FXE [60629-74].

Sooooo all I have to do to get Franken-Bike, or more appropriately "Blood, Sweat and Tears" back on the road is rebuild the four speed, find a used FXE inner primary, replace everything in the primary case...
and then reward myself with a brand new set of forward controls.
Oh yeah, and cross my fingers.
