Now here is more weirdness about the FRANKEN-BIKE! The tranny number corresponds to the 1979-1984 Fl style rotary top 4 speed. But the Inner primary is a 197? FXE [60629-74]..
Don't sweat the inner primary numbers. The last number corresponds to the year it was first introduced. In 1974 FX models went from a forward control to a mid shift through the primary cover. FLH models always had the forward controls. You can use either cover on a FL or FX with forward controls just by just pluging the shift linkage hole. As some have mentioned Tiwain Ted parts have suffered from quality control issures. Unfortunately they are the only ones reproducing parts for the old scooters. NOS parts are drying up and many of the other companies when you order you end up with V-Twin parts, such as J&P.
Dear Senor Lucre, now that's the kind of information a person can only get from someone with years of experience, as indicated by your list of classic bikes. Now I know that a picture is indeed worth a thousands words and perhaps as much money.
Another question? As I start to rebuild the primary components, should I look for a set...like a package thing or search the net for the components. Sites to avoid?
Belts last longer if shielded from the sun. The sun dries them out, not to mention UV rays weaken and crack the rubber also making them less supple. Sure exposed primary belts look cool and industrial and all.....But the longest lasting belts never see sunlight.
Its your bike, do what you think looks best, and what you like...even if you sacrifice belt life a little bit.

Y'all's help is invaluable. Gracias
If you know what to look for you can pick up most of the components at swap meets, if you don't, the kit is a good way to go. Check e-bay regularly, I lot of people get rid of the chain parts when they put on a belt.
Hey I just talked to Rich [http://www.richsparts.com/index.html] about the quality of his parts. After two or three reasonable questions-like do you guarantee the parts to work and what oem #'s he had- he said I sounded "Pretty skeptical" and that maybe I shouldn't deal with him.
