Default Primary Chain length ?s

I need to replace the primary chain in my 1976 FXE. Stretched beyond it limits. Without taking the old chain off and counting the links. Can someone tell me what is the correct chain? I want to get one quick and I cant open it up today to count.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It is probably the 82 link chain.

I believe you are correct. Talked to a buddy today. A 2x82 was his recollection.
Thanks,

Yes 82 is the standard replacement size for 37 and later 4 speed big twins. They make a larger and smaller for over or undersize motor sprockets.

If you ain't spent yer dollars yet, here's a tip. There are 2 types of chain; split-roller or solid roller. The solid-roller is the better and ,not suprisingly, the costy-er.
Tsubaki, is the brand I've ALWAYS run, front AND rear (nickle-plated-solid-roller on the rear; they strech VERY little and, properly maintained, last a looooooooooooooooong damn time and this is very likely the only time you'll see me reccommend anything not US made.
