Default FL to FX battery switch...

Anyone know the easiest way to switch an FLH to an FX battery? I bought a wrap around, horseshoe style, oil tank that only fits an fxe battery and I really want to get it to work.

So can I just swap the battery out or do I need to rewire the whole bike?

Thanks,

alex.

Just swap batteries it's a common switch. The only problem I had years ago when I did it with one of mine, is that the batteries wouldn't last because of the vibration (one only lasted a month). When you switch to the wrap around you lose the rubber mounts. Also I had some clearance problems droping the battery into the carrier. The frame was a little tight at the top. You may have to remove the tank to change batteries.

And since you are going to switch, dump the lead acid with the overflow hose and get a sealed one.

so will the charging system not make a difference? I know FXE batteries are 12 Volt 19 amp and have the charge rate of 1.5 ampes, but the FLH batteries are 12 volt 32 amp and charge at 4 ampes.

So you guys are saying all I have to do is go buy an AGM FXE battery, hook it up and it will work exactly the same as my FLH battery?

Note: I am not running any accessories. I have a mechanical speedo and tach, the starter, horn, and lights are the only electrical gadgets. I took the turn signals off.

Nice thing about the sealed batteries is the CCA factor. Jireh seals OEM types for the stock 65-84 FLH models, the ones you can do dead lifts with because they are so big and heavy, and I will say it works very well. went to a sealed one for my brother-in-laws chopped 50 kick only and it works very nicely as well.
