Hi guys,i have a `77 FLH and i have a wierd problem with her,she keeps wet fouling the front spark plug, only the front the rear runs excellent,i did a compression test seemed to be fine, its got new wires, new accel coil, new points,S&S Super E carb, also another thing i noticed is when i shut the bike off for lets say 5-10 min. after ive been ridin her she will not start very easy, sometimes i have to lift the choke to start her, someetimes she pops through exhaust hard only 1 pop,and she sputters through the carb often what the hell could it be any help greatly appreciated.
First, let me say I am not a HD mechanic, so take this with a grain of salt. I had a really similar problem on a 78 electra glide. It ended up being a worn valve seat, not sealing just perfectly. I had the valves reseated and the mechanic told me to run a lead-additive in my gas. I had the bike for a couple more years with no problems. Good luck.
Check your air filter! Any restriction, no matter how slight ( even if just portion of the element is plugged) can cause a rich, choked condition. Harley motors need serious airflow and that is why K & N filters work so well - they have excellent airflow. THis was a recent issue for me causing a similar problem.
check for burst of white smoke from the pipe. if there is white smoke, it is a guide. the oil port leaking from the head is likely and won't show dark or white smoke but will leave the area wet. if the area around the plug is to laden with oil it could make it hard to start.
i hate to bring this up but check to see if the plug wire is seating all the way down. sometimes they won't clip on and stay. a good friend changed three sets of plugs and and two points on the side of the road for two hours in 90 degree humid heat just to find that out.

I dont see any white smoke at all Cobb, what or where is this oil port from the head exactly?
How long ago did you install the carb/intake? Did it do this before the mod's? She might not be sealing to the front properly. The big pop is all the gas that has'nt been mixed properly then goes off in the pipes.
You might want to pull the front exhaust pipe off and have a look in the exhaust port of that front head. If you find it greasy I would pull the head because it may be nothing but a worn out valve guide. This would allow you to also inspect the bore to see if there may be a wear problem. I hope you just find a bad guide, and if it is not blowing a lot of smoke out the tailpipe that might be all it needs.................pg
