hows it hangin everyone? ive got a 1973 shovel that I am rebuilding completly had the local harley shop go through the bottom end for me. what im looking at is on the timing side at the bottom left side there are susposed to be two tubes for the oil pump. one that goes from front to back that the oil pump shaft goes through and another one that comes straight out at you that goes inside another tube on the timing cover. my case is missing the tube that comes out at you that goes inside the timing cover tube. is this a prob or not the guy that went through the bottom end didnt say anything about it and i didnt notice till i got it back home to start putting it together. its gonna be pretty much a stock motor with a andrews b grind cam with solid lifters and stock style pistons that are .020" over. any help would be greatly appreciated. ride hard!
You have three primary lines for your system feed (comes from bottom of oil tank to the top of your pump), return (from top of your pump to the top of the tank), and vent (top of motor to top of oil tank).
If you don't have a manual get one. Not cheap but better 50 bucks than burning your motor because you screwed the pooch on your connections.
And post a pic please. What you are saying is a bit unclear so i may be way off base about what you are asking.

at work right now but will take a pic tonight when i get home but the tubes are inside the timing side case below the breather gear one runs front to back that the main oil pump shaft runs through and the other is susposesd to come straight out at you when you have the timing cover off there is also a tube on the timing cover that links up with that tube. i am missing the tube that comes straight out at you when you have the timing cover off. thanks
The tube running left to right in the photo (front to rear in engine) is the oil pump shaft bushing, part# 24641-36
I've never seen the other pipe missing from one and there is no part number in any book I have. It is an extension for the breather that exits the case at the elbow behind the oil pump body and I don't know whether it's pressed or threaded but it's very close to the diminsions of the shaft bushing. I don't have anything torn down right now but you might do some measuring and possible an oil pump shaft bushing would work for that.
