Default Thoughts on lowering fxs

Have the swingarm out and was thinking to move the shock mounts back, say an inch or so to lower the bike(stock 1981 low rider). Any experience out there with this sort of move?...interference, etc. Shorter shocks are the quick and easy way...just thought moving the mounts would look cleaner, original and maybe a better ride. Also...would shorter tubes (less 2") be the best method for the front...or just shorter progressive springs? Thanks...

If it were me I'd consider a set of lowering blocks for the swing arm, they aren't really expensive and you can try the ride before any mod's. I'd find another swingarm to modify so if you want to go back to stock you'll have the original and the same for the front end, tubes and spings would be alot better than just shorter springs. You'll have less lift on accelleration.
Thats just my two cent's.

Thanks Shane...good points, all of 'em, especially the lift issue, but haven't been able to find lowering blocks for the shovel. Could possibly fit a Dyna set for testing. Noticed one of the rears is shot and just on the spring...so..will have to change them anyway and, probably will go with 11 inchers.

belt / chain to inner primary clearance can be a problem when lowering.

Just my .02 I went with 1' lower shocks way back when, then tried 1/2" and thats where i left it. I have a 2" under front end and the bike sets pretty much level. As stated above 1" lower and you will have inner primary rubbung issues along with a swingarm thats runs up-hill . Be sure trans sprocket is 23t or less

Another old trick is to flip the swingarm upside down.It will lower the bike the width of the swingarm tube.I just flipped and stretched mine 4" but didn't have to deal with the shock mounting so I didn't check how much it actually lowered the bike(mine has a homemade monoshock suspension).
