Default Lowering kits

Alright folks. I'm thinking I want to drop my rear end an inch. What is the general consensus of the lowering kits. Good ? Bad? I've done a little reading about the pros and cons. But you can find as many pros as cons (probably Silvia's in this forum). Real world "it happened to me" (good or bad) input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bruce

pro- you can stay with 13" shocks which give better damping than 12"- more travel

( I tried 12" vs 13" and lowering blocks- the latter was better for ride quality)

cons- depending on what you get, some lowering blocks may pivot on the swingarm

reduced cornering clearance

I lower everything I own, no matter what....LOL
My Mustang, My S10 and of course, my bike. But that's because I like it. In terms of whether to lower, that's up to you. In terms of HOW to lower, think this:

Cheap lowering blocks, like ebay brackets = Bad.

Quality Lowering blocks, like Pingel = Decent

Shorter shocks = the best way.

Modified seats get the rider down, as well, and maintain the longer suspension travel.

I use a set of LA Choppers 1" lowering blocks. They are one of the VERY few that retain the factory shock angle. Very strong, well built. No change in ride quality. No problems.

Thanks bikerlaw. Yea, ur assessment is about what I've seen thus far. I don't need to lower for my reach. Just the look. I'm working on baggin my RK and the drop wud help in the look.

I was primarily looking to see if anybody had nightmare stories about the lowering block kits.

But to your question, Some say you lose turn dynamics if you don't lower the front too. I have a Softail, so different suspension, but I've lowered mine 2", tried lowering shocks=bad, went with air shocks and am very happy. And tooless rebound adjustable.

I went the shocks route for my King. I currently have Ohlins 12" shocks for the rear and Progressive lowering kit up front as I have 21" wheels.

You thought about air suspension for a more slammed look anytime you want?
