The check ball leak comes from sitting for a long time. Oil drains from the tank past the check ball over time and pukes about a cup or so of oil then it's done..

The check ball your looking for is in the oil pump , see the 2 caps on top of it ? You want the one in the middle of the pump . Go to the dealer or a decent shop and get a new spring and ball their cheap . Drain your oil or crimp off the feed line from the oil bag big mess if you don't pull the plug and gently pull the spring out , leave the ball for now . Find a roll punch or a piece of rod that just fit in hole about 4 " long and with a small hammer tap the top of that rod several times . What you have just done is made sure the check ball seat is good for the new one , over time grit and general wear wobbles it out a little and you puke at start up . Use a small magnet to pull the old ball out drop the new in do the oil and go , this at least slows the crap down if not fixing it 90% of the time .

Use the old ball, tap it a couple times with a pin punch and hammer, then pull it out to replace. I've left the same one in after re seating it. You don't have to smash it. It may just have a chunk of dirt or something in the way causing it not to seat.
