Having trouble identifying replacement starter ring. Heavily customized shovel engine ( generator right case but alternator left, 80" S&S top end, etc... ) mostly done by deceased original builder. Belt primary (1.5" ) 4 speed ratchet, chain final. Originally kick start only but converted to electric start. Was given a "bolt" on ring by old Harley guy that I now need to replace but can't find in any books and "old Harley Guy" is now also deceased. I think it may have been customized by drilling of holes....not much meat left to ring in those six areas.
Specs are:
66 teeth
5/16" thick
8.5' outside teeth diam.
beveled interior dia. of 7.25" tapered to 7"
6 tapered holes on 8.5 centers
Thanks in advance!
Check with BDL Ind. online , that's an aftermarket belt drive question is whose and BDL is about the only one left . Send their tech support the specs or a bigger pic see what shakes out , good luck
Just shot off pics and specs to BDL...weird thing though,...got an instant reply saying that they're moving and can't reply to e-mail until after June 1rst. Last I looked, we're in August.....I think....................... :-)
I've got an old Primo that takes the bolt on ring gear also and BDL picked them up yrs ago so .... Don't known who has Karata now but I've seen parts listed on the net recently for them , is the belt a square tooth or the rounded style ?
They're only 18 miles from my house and I never knew they were there. I called and the owner was actually in the office on a Saturday morning and let me come in and pick up the ring. Hung around a bit with him, got some tips and got their new catalog plus discounted the ring since I drove up and he didn't have to ship.
