I went the other way and swapped my modern 96? controls back to v-twin 70s controls and like the style better on a classic.
The switches and buttons are a problem though, I had a dangerous trip home one night when the high/low switch packed up.
I'll plan to swap back to my modern controls.
It was simple. When i purchased my 95 and up controls they came with an adapter for the shovel 4spd clutch. After seeing the adapter I realized you can buy just that adapter online. Looks like the cylinder on the end of a throttle cable. Just a cylinder that has a slotted hole in it for the 4spd cable end. Takes the place of the solid plastic slugs that modern clutch cables use. Hope that helps.

Pin size in the pivot is the same both control sets, difference is the shovel is drill & slotted for the cable end where the later system uses the ring swedged on the cable with a solid pin dropped in. Easy conversation even drilling the solid pin to make it a slotted if you don't have any laying around. You know how us backyard guys can be

They have another one that has a grove for the snap ring at the bottom. Just depends on what controls you have.
