Sorry to pull up an old thread, but it's relevant to my problem. I'm having the same issue with my 76 fxe.
I ordered the same flare crush washers, and need to know which way to insert the washer: I'm guessing cone (pointed) side up, in the caliper. Correct? Don't want to screw this up.

Awesome. Worked like a charm. Before ordering, I asked a few guys around here, including the HD shop. Nobody had ever heard of this fix.
