Default V-Factor Ignition Mudule

I bought an ignition module. Well, they sent the wrong one. I wanted a Dyna-S dual fire and they sent a V-Factor dual fire. The seller gave me a full refund for the mistake and I get to keep the V-Factor. I know the Dyna just bolts in which would have been an easy install. BUT for this V-Factor which in model number 17569 and sold on Mid-USA's website is completely different. What extra parts do I need to find and can it be installed with the existing 1973 mechanical advance?

Can't pull up Mid USA and get a pic of the part number you reference but from looking at yours it is the same as Tedds Volt Tech Ignition System #32-9501. According to their specs it fits dual fire ignition systems for Evos, Sportys and Shovels through 1997. has an adjustable RPM limiter and includes adjustment for rate of advance. Says the unit is compatible with stock dual fire coils.

And according to the Tedd book for 82 and earlier application you will also need the Sensor Cup and Screw Set. (their part #32-0559).

There has to be some installation instructions with it for reference no?

Guess my only reservation is why, since you got a full refund, put on a component made by the lowest bidder (and will probably take a dump on you when you are going through some desolate place) and not go to the Dyna like you wanted to since the Dyna is a far better quality part.

Panz4ever is right , that one is a knock off of the Compufire system that was popular several yrs ago . Can't use you mechanical advance , you need to find the stock trigger " cup " that came with OEM electronic ign. systems instead to use that one . Check the paper work to see what the ohm rating for the coil that system needs , some take the later 2 or 3 ohm coils instead of the old points 5 ohm type and it does make a difference . I also side with him about the using the Dyna system , had one in mine and number of other shovel's for many years with zero problem were the knock off's have had some issues like falling apart . Sell it on craigs or something and get the Dyna S

http://www.jirehcycles.com/ part # 53-389 dual fire bolt in .

PS if you don't have any paper work look up VTwins ( Tedds) website and email them with a picture of the unit they will send you an instruction sheet no problem .

Default Ignition Module

I was thinking of using the V-Factor since I didn't get the Dyna like I ordered. I'll still buy the Dyna like I had planned and put the V-Factor on Craig's list locally. If it's a POS I won't use it.

Most of the knock off repro systems like one and the dyna look a like I've had issues with the tiny screws that hold them together coming out plus one that shorted internally completely . Only problem I've seen with a Dyna was owner caused . I won't say they they are a POS but the quality control leaves something to be desired .

Only thing I'll suggest with a Dyna S is spend the bucks and get the good stainless steel with bearings timing advance unit you'll be much happier . Lube them once a year and that will last for a very long time , I'm going on 10 yrs with mine so far .

The Dyna 2000 looks like the one you have and it take the OEM pick up sensor cup , no advance .
