Default JETS?

Here's a answer that I can only get on this Shovel site.
I have 30" straight thru fishtails on my 80/80 FLT. It seems to be running to lean.
It now has a 165 main jet.
What size do guys, with a similar set-up, recommend?

Thanks for the input, the pic is misleading as I have gone back to the stock ham can air cleaner. The carb is a stock Keihn.
Does anyone have an opinion as to what main and pilot jet sizes to run with straight thru fishtail slip on's. Currently running 1.65mm & .70mm
I guess I should go up a size or two, but I like to hear from someone that knows.
Thanx

I would try a 180. Did you remove the plug from the low speed air-fuel mixture screw? That is one of the first things to do on the Keihen carb.

Yes, I have access to the idle mixture screw. I now have it set at 3/4" out. What do you recommend?

I just but a pair of 10" baffels in the fishtails to tone them down some. New jets will come today. I plan on jumping one size to 170 and 72 on the slow jet. your suggestion using a 180 with straight pipes sounds good, but I don't know what effect the baffels will make. I'll experiment to see where it settles in.

Are you running straight pipes? Where do you have your idle mixture set?

Thanks for the help.

I run S&S carbs on all my bikes. On the Keihen, I have found that 1and 1/2 turns out is a good starting point for the low speed mixture. As you probably know, it is best to change only one jet at a time. I start with the pilot jet, then do the main. If it coughs in the air cleaner, it is too lean. Also I make sure the accelarator pump is shooting a good stream, directly in the throat of the carb.ood luck with it.

Thanks for you help. I installed the baffels (didn't do much) and stepped up the pilot ahd main one size.Runs great. I'll read the plugs. and see what's up.

Also did a compression test. 150 in front and 147 rear. This bike may be a keeper!

What brand and # plugs are you running? HD or other?

The local parts place only had Autolite R6. I'll try those for awhile.
The independent HD shop recommended Bosch Platium 4237.
Have a good T-Day.
