throttle cables

Default throttle cables

ok this has probly been answered before but i couldnt find it anywhere.when switching to the cv carb do you have to get a new throttle cable?mine is to short 1981 flt.do i need to order one for a newer bike?i noticed the fltc ultra 90-95 has a 44 inch cable?

If you need one that is physically longer, then you need to measure the cable housing including the ferrules. Then figure out what you need for the right length. I'm concerned the free length of the actual cable inside the housing will need to be longer. Anyway, I would figure out the correct lengths and check a V-Twin dealer and see if they can order one for you. J&P Cycle is another resource you may try.

hey thanks man but i got it figured out.had to cut the housing back and unwind the spiral cover and snip that off.it set it down in the bracket further that way

I'm trying to do the same thing,with stainless braided cables,so unfortunately,,cant snip em back,,,what to do?

i had to do the same thing on my fxstc. just cut the housing back a little and that worked. used an air cutoff tool really careful. you're gonna like that carb on there too.

Had the local shop custom make one for my SU carb. They have a kit with the all the parts to make one from scratch. Barnett will also custom make them for you.

I have used a Dremel tool with cutoff wheels to adjust cables before , tough doing the braided but it can be done just a couple tight wraps with black tape around the area your cutting to keep the fraying down .
