Default speedo drive

So I installed a new speedo,,stopped working ,I assumed it was the cable so I got a new one,and it worked intermittently,,now not at all,I know the speedo is ok,,seems as if the cable is too short on the tranny end,,do these drive gears malfunction? if so how easy to convert to front wheel drive?

The drive unit in the trans is pretty tough never seen one bad . Front wheel conversion will take some rigging and then it's a different ratio so means another new speedo . I'd check the cable again and maybe lube it .

on your speedo -- do you have the threaded adaptor?? some speedos require a adaptor nipple to connect the cable to the universal speedo. this makes the inner cable to short to stay in the speedo and you get the on/off action till it stops -- disconnect the csble from the speedo and jack the bike up and run it and see if the cable turns -- if it does then its NOT in the tranny or the front wheel drive unit.. what i did was cut a piece of the old square end -- not alot just a tad to push the cable up enough from the tranny unit to make the speedo work --- in the front wheel drive you have to put the cut piece in it.. gravity makes the cable slide either into the tranny unit or into the front wheel drive and it pulls away from the speedo-- first thing you notice if the skipping then it stops ...
