Default Need Assistance

I purchased a 1980 FLH and had issues with the electrical system, instead of chasing down problem after problem I opted to have a mechanic replace the entire electrical system due to the age of the bike and the fact that its been in the Florida Keys for most of its life and could benefit from all new wiring and contacts. Can someone tell me the approximate cost I should expect to pay for this project. Any estimates would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any and all responses

Asking the mech would be a great start. Good luck!

The mechanic has had the bike almost a year and I'm attempting to determine what a fair price would have been if he completed the job. I'll be taking posession of the bike back and will probably end up in a difficult position attempting to determine what his "time" was worth as not to end up with a mechanics lien on the vehicle. I've lost a year of riding, the bike ran strong but I lost the proper use of the rocker switch for the headlights and when i tore the harness down saw some strange connections and wiring that was not even close to factory. Rather than try to correct someone elses work I thought I was doing the right thing by replacing the entire wiring harness since the engine and cosmetics on the bike were superb.

Thanks biginchhustler, I bought the entire wiring harness through the mechanic and paid a little more than the ebay listing. I know the rewire is a labor-intensive job and didnt know if anyone had access to a mechanics manual on the amount of time the job should be billed at, or if someone else had a similar rewire accomplished what the finished job ended up costing. You can see I've got myself in a difficult position and just want to get back on the road.

Can't say what a flat rate hourly cost would be for total hours involved , WAY to many variables , little nick knack stuff like corroded contacts inside a light socket or internal corroded grounding issues on components and stuff like that . You said the bike came from a wet and probably salty air area like Florida it can get real labor intensive chasing gremlins even with a new harness . Everything the harness connects to has to be checked out , cleaned of replaced most times . Been there a few times with old bikes .

Thanks for your reply TwiZted Biker, I'll keep all that in mind when dealing with the mechanic.
