with the ethanol gas your not gonna have that light brown tint -- more a greyish color -- go to o'reilly auto parts and buy a set of AUTOLITE XS 65 champions are .. junk to me -- you will actually feel the difference with the autolites -- also put a dab of anti-seize on the threads putting steel plugs in aluminum heads without it is asking for a disaster --- i would leave the 68 --- top power with a factory cam isnt much to write home about.. ---
heres my 79 -- notice whats on the end of my drag pipes -- works wonders -- also if its a FXE and not a whale bike like some dresser -- put a 22 on the tranny and a 48 on the rear -- your gonna be surprised how well it will pull ..
got another S&S Super E question, but did not want to open a new thread.
Different bike, 80" FXRS, came with the carb
I have not messed with it yet and only had a quick test ride before I bought it.
It idles cold even without the choke on, but the choke does rise the rpm a little.
Anyway.... took the air filter off for cleaning and stated the bike... while running there is a lot of gas mist coming out of the carb... the nose cone underneath gets wet!
If I open the throttle, more gets out!
I don't remember my other bike with the Super E doing that, or another carburetor.
Any clues?
I guess I'll take it apart anyway, clean and check

I got to agree with that. Far and away the best plugs I've ever used.
I would also check the enrichment plunger...On a cold start, enrichment lever all the way up, it should idle faster,no hand on throttle......Make sure it's seated good and straight. As for the Autolites...I've always been a Champion guy....I'll have to give them a try just for the hell of it.................
