Default 1972 shovel problem

gday.....i have just bought a 72 shovel flh.
it has the internal throttle cable set up that
goes in through the handle bars.
i wanted to lubricate this cable as its very stiff, but i cant seem to
get to it. i have taken of the throttle tube at the hand control
but i am still not able to apply any lubricating material to it.
has anyone got any suggestions in how this can be done succesfully?
i didnt really want to replace this with an external throttle cable set up
because its a very original bike, so id like to be able to find a way to do this without too much fuss........if possible.
i have also heard that when and if i finnally get to it, silicone grease is the best thing to use because petrolium grease eventually hardens.....
has anyone out there got any suggestions?

cheers

Maybe you could take it loose from the carb end and use a cable lubricator to force some lube up into it. Might be best to try some penetrating oil first to loosen it up. http://www.kneedraggers.com/product/...segment=badger

I believe the roller that rides in the cam made on the handlebar has a screw slot on the post that it turns on. By disconnecting the cable at carb end and removing said post/screw, you can push the plunger in the bar back far enough to see the set screw that keeps the inner cable in. At that point you have both ends as plain wire so lubing or replacing should be clear choice, my Indy only gets about 10 bucks for a new inner wire and can be lubed as you push in place. Clean & Loctite threaded stuff when reassembling. And make sure the coil grounding kill button works!! A must for deadman throttles.
