New owner of a 1982 FLH
The motor is in great condition with only 18k original miles on it, but the last owner had neglected this classic a bit. So I will be breaking down the bike and putting her back together this winter.
Having said that, I have already encountered a problem. When I hit the electric start, it will engage, but the motor does not turn over, but when the start button is released (here's the problem) the starter doesn't disengage? I have to disconnect the battery to get it to shut off. PITA!!! Between my father and I using our general knowledge of mechanics, we took the switch apart, nothing. I bought a brand new relay, nothing. I bought a new solenoid, nothing. I switched the wires on the solenoid thinking maybe the owner before me switched them by accident, nothing. I have already grown frustrated, but I am trying to be patient here. Mind you, the bike has kick start also, so when/if I need to, I can start her right up, usually with 1-2 kicks!
Can anyone help me out here?

Second, ya gotta post a pic..or tw0, or three of the new ride.
Third, on the starting problem...starting system consists of the handlebar mounted button, battery, ignition switch, relay, solenoid and starter motor. You replaced, relay solenoid and inspected button, all good. Have you checked the hard cables from the solenoid to the battery and from the solenoid to the starter motor? Any chance that one (or both) are somehow grounding out and causing the problem. If the cables are good it is time to pull the starting motor and check for grounds. You pull it you can take it to a reputable shop that deals in small motors and have it bench tested.
Oh and welcome to the forum.
