Default 1983 flhs

NEw to HDForums. I have inquired a 1983 FLHS that is original. Engine all original with no mods done to it. All I have done was wash and waxed the paint and it all came back like brand new. Course it does have its nicks and scratches here and there. Well, the laced wheels are the worse part of the bike. The chrome is in bad condition and pitted. My question is..... is it best to have them re-chromed to keep it original and help the value of the bike or just replace them with aftermarket chrome laced wheels? Will it hurt the value at all? I have looked all over and have not seen these bikes for sell on websites anywhere. I saw on a Harley website that there were only like about 950 of this model made in 1983. Does anyone know about the bike? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Very nice bike. It was basically a stripped down FL with the same forward control setup as the '83 Wide Glide.

Wow buddy, you got a gem. They're getting pretty hard to come across in any condition let alone like that. Congrats and take good care of her!

This was after I cleaned her up. All I had to do was put a battery and new fluids and clean carb.

So do you know if I would mess up the value putting aftermarket lace wheels on it?

I don't think so. Keep the oem wheels in the garage and sell with the bike ( if you ever do!) and put on a set of aftermarket wheels so that the bike looks nice while you own it.

Just simple aftermarket 40 spokes.

Congrats on the bike. The 83 Shovel motor is one of the best.

That was what I wanted to do. Put 40 spoke back on. I have no plans on selling her. I actually got her from a friend that his mom taught me in school. So there is alot of sentimental value to me. His mom and dad bought brand new in 1983.
