Any special trick or anything for the heads removal/assembly?
I have adjusted pushrods a few times before but never worked on heads
A 9/16" torque adapter is a must to get the heads back on properly and a " S " wrench in the same size comes in handy aside from that follow the procedure in the manual . Only other tip is pull the intake manifold and before you tighten the heads down make sure the mating surfaces & the ports on the heads are nice and square , makes a big difference .

ok... getting the torque adapter then... already have the S wrench (it's a C wrench actually)
I have not started disassembling yet... but I was wondering if it would make any difference in getting the head bolts out to have a cold or a warm engine...?

good.. thanks!!

I you guys confirm these are the gaskets, I am ordering them:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cometic-MLS-...8298e7&vxp=mtr

So no sealers or anything to use, just the gaskets right?

Compared to the picture, the culinder looks shiny and smooth
A lot of carbon build up though on the head and valves, right?

Put the heads upside down and filled with gas enough to cover both all valves
This is the result after waiting 1 hour (red lines indicate the start and end level of the gas)

Should get my heads back from the shop in a couple of days.
Got the right head gaskets (Cometic) and rocker gaskets from James (black and red).
Any sealer to be used on the rockers?

Had mine off couple of weeks ago for similar thing...'cept most of my leak was from rear jugs rocker box. Found it was the rear stud...as the prior owner had the james red 'n black gaskets in there. But the oil was making it out that back left stud and out down the hole and down onto the rear exhaust. Made for nice stop lights in traffic

Rear jugs head gasket also had a little blow by. Backed out that loose leaky rocker box stud and put a coupla drips of loctite red and put her back in.

My heads were fairly clean, but I used a small wire brush wheel on a dremel just to clean it up. Couldn't find Cometic gaskets in time...local indy shop had some James in stock so I picked up the James blues for the heads 'n the black 'n reds for the rocker box. No goop...just gaskets.

Still nice 'n dry several hundred miles later.

Rear left head bolt is fun....pulled my clutch cable outta the way to get at her.

Re-torque the heads after each of the next 3 or 4 runs.

Will still get some Cometic gaskets for when I take her apart again this winter to get down to the frame.
