Default clutch issue

ok here's the problem as best as I can describe it. Well, first off the engine and trans are out of an 80 FLT. I cant seem to find neutral and it shifts hard into first and second. I adjusted the clutch cable at the trans and at the cable adjuster via the book. Still no resolve, I do notice a small lurch sometimes when I am sitting at a stop sight or light. Also my Neutral light is always on/flashes. Any insight would be awesome.

you said you adjusted the cable by the book BUT did you loosen it up and adjust the clutch rod in the derby first ??????? before adjusting the cable

the light is another issue - bulb could be hanging on by a thread and or the clip on the switch on the trans could be loose < or something like that - jz

the TOB ( throw out bearing ) could be broken and its not allowing a full travel of the clutch rod - The TOB is in the cover on the right side ( kicker cover ) but yours should be blank - jz

That is one thing I never thought to check. I will check it out once I get her rollin again. yesterday after doing a ride around Sturgis the rear sprocket decided to throw a few (3) bolts and **** my chain out. now I have to replace those and hopefully my wheel is ok and not stripped out.

when u have it apart, pull out the oil slinger n rod, if bearing is bad it could eat the rod there is a ball bearing at that end, make sure not to loose it. the bearing went out on my shovel once an ate the rod at bearing end, just a thought happened to me. good luck. bud
