Speedometer cable
The speedometer on my 1983 FLHT has stopped working. I pulled the cable out at the front wheel and can make the speedometer work by turning it with my electric drill. I figure this means that the cable and the fittings at the speedometer are all right. What other things could cause it not to work. There is a gear where the cable goes into the assembly but doesn't appear to be worn out. Any suggestions?

if you had the wheel off and not installed the tang correctly then that was the cause
