Default Rebuild time

OK guys, the time has come
Finaly some spare time and the engine is out
1983 FXRT

Long story short (which some of you will remember): needed a tope end rebuild for a while, rear head gasket leak 3 weeks before ride to Milawaukee (from NC), gasket replaced and valvejob done, bike back together, rode 2K miles to Milwaukee and back, 900 miles fine, then "breathing" noise from the exhaust, leake test and air comes off the timing hole.

As I said, engine is out, heads off, une cylinder off, but the other is glued to the base gasket, nuts off but it won't move. Suggentions?

Anyway, attached are the pictures of what's going on after 2K miles.

I will be taking all the parts to a shop for measurements and see what to order and what I need.

My plan is to rebuild the engine keeping it 80". That's my main bike and I need it reliable.
I assume I will need new pistons and rings. Suggentions?
With those, I would like to add a hotter cam. Where do I want the power band to be? I don't know. The bike is an FXRT, so a sport tourer with fairings and saddlebags. I have a 5 speed transmission, but will build a 6 speed soon (got the gears and getting a used 5 speed for free soon) so I have plenty of gears to play with. the bike handles great and I love mountain roads, but interstates too, cruising 75-80. Not sure what my sprockets are, but stock FXRT (enclosed final chain)
I think I don't want to change valves consfiguration for the cam... probably will keep the stock valves (unles mine need replacement... but let's wait)
Last thing... I am thinking about a CV carb (currently stock butterfly keihim). Any clue if the ham can airbox will still fit? I have a K&N filter in it and want to keep the stock appeareance. Anyway I think I can make it fit, that's the least of my problems.

I think that's all!

Thanks

On that stuck cylinder, rotate the piston to it's lowest position and whack it with a rubber mallet. Move on. You'll get longevity out of a stock motor. Just freshen it up. Hope you have a "qualified" builder.

no piston slap that I can tell...
Valves were done 2K miles ago
Cleaning up the combustion chaber these days... any tips?
I wacked the head with a rubber mallet.. no luck yet.. will keep doing it I guess
The rod I can see has some side play.. how much should I have? Do I measure it between the rod and the flywheels?

3 weeks before I can take my parts to check and measure
In the meantime a friend of mine found in is garage a 96" S&S stroker kit for shovelheads.
for now just cylinders and forged pistons... can't find the flywheel yet.
I am not planning on building a stroker...but there is an 80 stamped on the cylinders.. so I wonder what they are.
Pistons are 92-1830 (older S&S part number I think
The kit is 91-9402RP for 66-84 shovelheads, 4" 5/8 stroke and 5.440 cylinder height

If I cannot use them but somebody can, just let me know... don't know how much$ but he's got them stashed for a while... and has no novelheads!

So... any input on what to put on the bike?
also about the CV carb... got one from a friend, from a 99 FX I think.
What about the VOES? do I need one? attach a vacuum line to the intake?
Or just block the vac lines?

The CV will do a great job use a turbolator < some will say its smoking mirrors we tested them and they make torque < and that is what you want

use a dresser Voes you have a bat wing i think small fairing FXRT i think

it retards the timing going up grades so the motor does not ping < that is a good thing

got it... will look for one
Yes, FXRT. I just checked and VOES can be recalirated in case needed
I have the OEM electronic ignition and HD started using VOES in 84 I think... do I need to upgrade my ignition or can the VOES work with mine?
