Four Speed False Neutral
I have a 1980 FXWG. Last year, rebuilt the transmission with all new Andrews gears, new pawl springs, bushings, etc.
A few weeks ago, I upgraded my clutch to a Rivera Primo setup. After the new clutch, I started having an odd issue. Transmission shifts smooth as can be. BUT, every fifth or sixth time when I downshift from fourth to third, I hit a false neutral. It seems like it overshifts and the position of the rotary plate is past third gear, but not yet in second.
The only way to get back in sync is to downshift again until it hits second, then upshift to third.
When I rebuilt the trans, all the springs were replaced and there were no rough edges on the shift plate. This suddenly appeared with the install of the new clutch. Any ideas other than pulling the lid. It ran great until the new clutch.
Thnaks!
you did not say the shifter is different so the downshift spring should be ok BUT < always a BUT -- the detent screw holding the 2 pauls and springs could have backed off < the small screw on the bottom of the shift selector did you put blue lock tight on it ???? -- johnjzjz
