I made mine-- that big *** collector behind the merge collector is off of a 1981 Kawasaki jet ski -- it has a s/s funnel attached by springs to control the back pressure
a shovelhead is not a tuner, its really not that complicated.. run drag pipes, super E carb, you don't need anything else fancy. you might lose a couple HP here or there, but does it really matter. knucks, pans, and shovels, not to mention sportys have been running that way for a lonnngg time. as far as i know, you cant order a carb with a certain jet size. it comes with the best jet to get started. the bike will run, idle/mid will probably be fine. if it needs it, you can order jets a size or two up and down and change them as needed. S&S carbs usally do have a little bit of a dead spot at mid range. if it bothers you, they sell a thunderjet that makes midrange adjustable.
a new S&S carb comes with up and down jetting for each motor its boxed for, so you have adjustability just for that reason - the directions inside the new unit will guide you to just about any combo a street bike has < they have done it all hundreds of times just follow S&S directions and your done - johnjzjz

When I pulled the manifold, I noticed this chip missing. The old o-ring was formed to the gap, so I'm assuming its been missing awhile. Any suggestions on this?
I've seen aftermarket kits to convert from o-ring to band type clamps. Anyone have any experience with this? There may be a thread on this already, I haven't looked yet.
