DOT 5 and leaking front caliper

DOT 5 and leaking front caliper
rebuilt a front caliper on my FX and cleaned and purged and went to DOT 5. Caliper now leaks. Maybe switch to DOT 3 and swell the seals to fix the problem?????? This must have been debated here before...what's the "skinny" on DOT 3 versus 5 and shovel brake systems?

Dot 5 isn't/shouldn't be the cause of your leak. I've got DOT5 in my 1992 FLHTCU and in my 1979 FXEF and have had NO PROBLEMS at all. You need to go back through it. Good Luck.

the seal may be dried out / cracked - we convert all the custom stuff we do no matter what it calls for to dot 5 for as long as they have been making it dot 5 -- and have had no issues

Well, I've done probably 100 calipers over the years and this is the first time I've had a leak from a caliper....master cyls - yes....I've had leaks after master rebuilds due to bad bores....I'll pull it again and put another kit in it....I guess I was also looking to get info as to when HD went to DOT 5. I think it was 79 or so...
