I picked up an '81 FXS with a kicker. I'm having an issue with the kicker pedal/lever returning. The spring is new, and when I remove the spring the lever feels free, but has some drag on the return stroke.
Rotary style (cow pie) 4 speed transmission.
Any suggestions on what to look into?
Thanks,

Reason: another issue
Found the problem. Someone changed the bushings and didn't ream or hone to fit the shaft. That's fixed now.
Another problem, not getting enough throw in the clutch release rod to release the pressure plate enough. Getting clutch drag when lever pulled all the way in.
Yes, clutch and cable are adjusted properly!
This was happening when I purchased the bike, reason for getting it at a great price.
I changed the drive blocks in the basket, new clutch and plates, pressure plate is not warped. It doesn't appear the the release rod is pushing the pressure plate far enough.
This is a rotary top (cow pie) tranny, with an aftermarket belt primary. Wondering if someone swapped parts or something. Could the rod not be long enough?
