Hi guys, I bought a 78 fl1200 last Dec and went to go for along drive but only lasted 30mins as the bike died and took awhile to start. almost like it wasn't charging. Looks like the battery is 12.3 but when starting it's 12.4-13.4 volts in high revs.
I purchased the 32 amp stator kit (new battery as well) waiting for shipment) as I did add parking lights to it. I ma hoping to install that in the fall//winter though. I would like to know if there's a way to tell what the current stator amperage is? I was getting 0.6-0.7 ohms off the stator which i read normal range is around 0.5. COUld that just be the multimeter itself?
The voltage going to the battery at the regulator was showing 60volt. Stator reads 16v at idle and goes past 60-70 at 3000rpm.
My main question is that i want to just get some riding out of the season and if it's just the regulator I was going to try and replace that. The regulator that's in it now is a two pin , says custom chrome #226783 us232?
anyway to know what amp this is? I'll attach a picture
I think it might be the 22 amp which one of the previous owners put their own pins on it. It was grounded to the frame, is it supposed to be grounded to the neg terminal on the batttery?
Just don;t feel like pullling the outer and inner this time of the riding season. Will maybe try another 22 amp with the existing battery and put all the new stuff in the fall.
