Thanks 98hotrodfatboy!!!! I found it. Looks like 2, of the same relays, wired correctly should turn power off to the starter as soon as the starter button is released. Am I right?
Thank you again, gregjo1948

I was only showing you the link John was talking about. This is for the "Evo era, Dreaded Click Fix". Not sure it apply to your bike... John's wiring diagram is the fix for your problem..

I had this problem...once, the 3 piece ring gear seperated and locked the starter clutch out...got lucky and got the battery disconnected before the starter burned out. Picked up a battery kill switch on Amazon, routed the main power to the solenoid through it. Same idea as the secondary solenoid, but manual. The "key" pops out when it's turned off and kills the bike, so it works as a trick anti theft as well

I have a 67 sportster with no starter relay in the system and does not show it in the wiring diagram either and am thinking about adding the small Delco unit that they used in later years. I believe that this will be an added safeguard to my electric start system. Would I be correct? I don't think that I need the two relay system do I? Thanks
