With all of the "black out" bikes out there today, one would think that purchasing black bolts, washers, & nuts would be standard stock. Well, I'm trying to buy 2, gloss black bolts, etc to attach hwy pegs to the bar mounts. The HD dealer parts guy looks at me like I want to fly to Mars!
So, short of buying stainless and having them painted, any recommendations as to where to purchase something that, I would think, should be standard parts in today's motorcycle market?
The gloss black bolts I have on my bikes I sprayed myself. After installing them, I touch up any damage made by the wrench with a small brush. All the ones I have are allens, so they are easy to touch up.
short of buying stainless and having them painted,
Why stainless?
Just get the bolt you need and a rattle can of Black paint,,,it's just a bolt,, there's little need to get a shop to powder coat a bolt head.
Do de-grease with acetone or denatured alcohol,, stick the bolt in a piece of scrap cardboard and spray,, Rustoleum tends to work well.
If during install you mar the paint,, take the same rattle can and spray a Q-tip,, do a little touch up.
Check at Ace Hardware, the Ace Hardwares here have a big selection of what they call black chrome, these might do for what you're trying to accomplish.
true, I had the same question....I ended up just buying a small can of rustoleum in gloss black and one in flat black. a couple of model paint brushes and I was set. they're perfect. I did the motor, fender struts, seat bolt, rear swingarm bolt, pulley bolts, ect ect...

Thanks for the posts!
For convenience, I'll run thru Ace. If that doesn't work, then paint 'em myself.
Seemed like a trivial question, but when I bought the mounts and the pegs, and the dealer puts chrome bolts out on the counter, I thought WTF? Then I said "black bolts?"............Wow! What an idea!

Went to 2 Ace Hdw. Neither had gloss black, or black chrome bolts. Huge selection of bolts, just not what I needed.
One of my co-workers was with me. His hobby is rebuilding old cars. Once he learned what I was looking for, he said, "I can paint that....". So, bought two polished stainless bolts.
Two days later, he brings me exactly what I wanted. He primered them, then painted, plus brought touch up paint in case any little scuffs on install. Waiting for a couple of days for the paint to dry little more solid. Perfect.
I told him with all of the black bikes, he could have a part-time gig creating black bolts!
