I am looking to relocate the ignition switch on my 14 RK. What are people doing when they install a custom low profile dash? I did a search and didn't find anything. Before I have something fabricated are there other options?
I don't know if this will work. In theory it does. I installed the CVO dash from 14 RK. It had the red LED in the ignition switch hole. Since it had the curved turn signal lights vs straight and the cool speedo was already married to the previous owners BCM, I had to use the original wire harness and my speedo. I swapped out my dash and plugged it in and it didn't work. So I got to thinking, what if the BCM is looking for a specific OHMS resistance. I checked and the ignition switch was 2.14 if I remember. (it really don't matter for this post). I measured the LED and it was .9 something. I got to thinking if I put a resistor in line with the LED to match the ignition switch, would the LED work. I could eliminate the ignition switch all together. Well, I never got around to seeing if that would work and just wired in my ignition switch (plugs were different) and sold the LED. You can get them for $80 but I think it is a restricted part. So you will have to have a buddy with a CVO order it for you.
I was the guy who bought your dash and the CVO led from eBay. I figured out how to have only the bar and shield show up so it didn't say CVO. I ended up relocating the ignition switch to the horn location, mounted the LED in the ignition location and powered it using the switched power of the amp running my handle bar speakers. I also had the center of the dash powder coated and added some pinstriping.
I also bought a used 2014 Road King CVO console and speedo\tach. After finding out that the speedo was useless I installed my Speedo in the CVO Console and want to remove the led light and install my ignition switch. My question is what did you use since the CVO harness plug to the led is different than the one to my switch. Also thought of using my original harness but it is also different where it plugs into the turn signal lights. Any info would be appreciated.
I ordered the correct connector, both ends, and some pins from the dealer, and made my own wires, made my own jumper, just in case I wanted to switch back some day. used the CVO harness otherwise. One would wonder if you can plug in the ignition switch into where an LED Light was, it works, must have something to do with resistance. Do you want to sell the CVO insert? I would make you the jumper in exchange for it.
I already gave a buddy the CVO insert. What do you want to make the jumper for me or if you have the part#'s and pin out for the wire locations I will attempt it. Thanks again. Also wanted to say awesome bike. Looks like we share the same taste.
