I've had the quarter fairing on this bike since 1995. I had a Cafe Racer Sportster with the factory fairing & liked it so I thought why not put one on the FXLR? Very few bikes had fairings back then so I was more or less in the ground floor but I always liked my bikes to look different than the rest. But after that TV show on FX came out fairings became very popular but I've left the fairing on the bike as I get 3-4 mpg better gas mileage with it & it does help block the wind.
looking good!

I must have picked a good topic then! It has been interesting to hear the passion for fairings. Function over form seems to be the consensus. Seems to be a fashionable bandwagon that we have managed largely to stay clear of in the UK. There are far less Harleys here in relation to other bikes. Most go for the traditional naked look. So are aftermarket fairings ugly?....well a few managed to become personal and say my bike is ugly which is a natural defence mechanism. Apparently it's none of my business. Whatever. Some on sale are quite tasteful I now realise. Others are more tacky. I note some of you take it on and off the bike. That seems sensible. To buck a trend is hard. But it makes you think. I would like to thank those who have replied to my posts politely. In my original post I apologised in advance for any offence. I enjoy this forum - it has a lot of vitality unlike some which are, frankly pretty boring where everyone agrees with each other.
Is it me or are fairings on Dynas or Sportsters for that matter plain fugly? For a stripped back concept to have an appendage not intended by the designer seems pointless.
Speaking of goofy-looking appendages, why have you ruined the intended design theme of your bike by installing apes?
