I just purchased some new grips thinking they would be easy to put on. Seems as if the stock grips on my 07 FLHX are glued on and therefore I will need to cut them off. Also, the directions that come with the grips instruct you to use the service manual when installing the right hand grip, throttle attachment seems tricky.
Has anyone changed their grips on an FLHX? If so, how should I proceed.
Make sure to squeeze the front brake & stick some cardboard in between the lever & the cradle, so you don't break off the tail light switch....

Ditto, there is a tech tip about this. Service guy told me if you don't the second time you squeeze the brake it breaks the nipple on the switch. I didn't do this and mine came out ok, must have been lucky.
I have some new grips on order but do have the service manual and have read about a 4mm piece of cardboard in the brake lever but I would be interested to know how easy it was getting the Left Hand Glued Grip off without damaging the chrome anyone ?
I jsut took a exacto knife and gently and slowly cut through the grip, once you get a cut started slip something under the grip, like needle nose pliers and pull while cutting, then your not putting the blade on the chrome.
Put the grips on today before reading the suggestions about the cardboard insertion. Everything seems OK thus far. I took the bike out for a 20 mile or so run but did not check my tailight. If I did mess it up, is the switch easy to replace?
I cut the grip off the left with a razor knife, went slow and steady with minimal difficulty.
The grips took me about 30 minutes or so to put on. The little brass fittings on the throttle cables are tricky and took the most time.
Thanks for the help.
